Coronary Angiography
Coronary angiography is a test used to detect narrowing in your arteries. Learn what to expect and when you might get a stent.
What is angiography, and how is it done?
Angiograms are X-rays that detect narrow, blocked, enlarged, or malformed arteries or veins in many body parts, including the brain, heart, abdomen and legs. Coronary angiograms are X-rays of the arteries in the heart.
How it helps treatment planning
An angiogram offers information on the extent and severity of heart disease and helps your doctor plan treatment. These may include angioplasty, stents, bypass surgery or medications.

Coronary angioplasty
Angioplasty is a procedure that opens clogged arteries in the heart.
How angioplasty works
A tiny balloon helps widen an artery that has been temporarily blocked by a plaque. Angioplasty is often combined with permanent placement of a stent to prop an artery open and decrease its risk of narrowing again.
Why it is performed
This procedure can relieve chest pain and shortness of breath caused by blocked arteries. In addition to opening blocked arteries after a heart attack, angioplasty can also reduce the degree of heart damage.

Cardiac Surgery
Ruby Hall Clinic lists a range of cardiac surgery services for complex heart conditions.
- Aortic surgery - surgery to repair or replace aortic aneurysms and aortic dissections.
- Aortic valve surgery - surgery to repair or replace an aortic valve that is not working correctly.
- Arrhythmia surgery - surgery to correct irregular heart rhythms such as atrial fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia.
- Congenital heart surgery - corrective surgery to fix or treat a genetic heart defect.
- Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery - bypassing the blocked portion of the coronary artery with another blood vessel.
- Left ventricular assist device (LVAD) - a mechanical device that aids the pumping function of the blood.
- Valvular surgery - heart valve surgery to repair or replace diseased heart valves.

Coronary Care Unit (CCU)
Ruby Hall Clinic has over 100 beds devoted to heart conditions, including a cutting-edge 36-bed Coronary Care Unit.
Dedicated cardiac intensive care
The CCU is described as designed and run by seasoned cardiologist and founding director Dr. R.B. Gulati.

Heart Transplant
Two million new cases of heart failure are reported in India every year, and one-third of them require a heart transplant.
When transplant is considered
A transplant is performed when end-stage heart failure or heart injury cannot be treated by any other means. It is reserved for individuals with a high risk of dying.
Ruby Hall Clinic programme
Ruby Hall Clinic was the first hospital in Pune to have received a license to undertake this procedure. The transplant team evaluates high-risk patients and decides whether a heart transplant is the best therapeutic option.

Paediatric Cardiology
The paediatric cardiology unit provides end-to-end cardiac care from 18 weeks gestation.
- Care and correction for congenital heart diseases including Atrial Septal Defect, Ventricular Septal Defect, Patent Ductus Arteriosus, Fallot's Tetralogy, congenital valve stenosis and coarctation of the aorta and pulmonary artery.
- Treatment for cardiac conditions including Rheumatic Heart Disease, myocarditis and cardiomyopathies.
- Cardiac catheterisation procedures for congenital heart defects without open-heart surgery, including closure of septal defects, balloon dilatation and stenting.
- Paediatric electrophysiology services including radiofrequency ablation, transcatheter cryoablation and intraoperative cryoablation.

Diagnostic Services
Effective treatment is entirely dependent on efficient diagnosis.
- Coronary angiography
- Diagnostic cardiac catheterisation
- Transthoracic, transoesophageal and intraoperative echocardiography
- 256-slice CT
- 2D, 3D, echo and stress echocardiography
- Cardiac MRI
- Vascular Doppler - arterial and venous
